Bhagavadgíta,-संन्यासयोगः saṃnyāsayogaḥ, (S.-1, Ch.-5, V.-22)

ये हि संस्पर्शजा भोगा दुःखयोनय एव ते ।आद्यन्तवन्तः कौन्तेय न तेषु रमते बुधः ॥ ५-२२॥

ye hi saṃsparśajā bhogā duḥkhayonaya eva te । ādyantavantaḥ kaunteya na teṣu ramate budhaḥ ॥ 5-22॥



ये = ye (m. nom. pl.), who, which.; 

हि = hi, indeed, truly.; 

संस्पर्शजा = samsparsaja (m. nom. pl.), born of touch-ing, born of contact.; 

भोगा = bhogā (m. nom. pl.), pleasures, gratifica-tions.; 

दुःख = duḥkha (n.), pain, misery, unhappiness.; 

योनय = yonaya (m. nom. pl.), wombs, sources.(duḥkhayonaya, m. n. pI. TP cpd., sources of pain.); 

एव = eva, indeed (used as a rhythmic filler).; 

ते = te (m. nom. sg.), they.; 

आदि = adi, beginning, commencement.; 

अन्त = anta, end.; 

वन्तः = vantaḥ (m. nom. pI. suffix), having, rich in, tending toward. (adyantavantas, m. nom. pI., having a begin-ning and an end.); 

कौन्तेय = kaunteya (m. voc. sg.), Sun of Kunti, epithet of Arjuna.; 

 = na, not.; 

तेषु = teṣu (m. loco pl.), in them.; 

रमते = ramate (3rd sg. mid. *ram), he is content, he is delighted, he rejoices.; 

बुधः = budhaḥ (m. nom. sg.), wise man, man of in-telligence.



O son of Kunti! The material pleasures borne of the senses and their contacts are undoubtedly the cause of sorrow and have a beginning as well as an end. Therefore, a wise, intelligent person never dwells in them. ||5-22||
