| Bhagavadgíta,-संन्यासयोगः saṃnyāsayogaḥ, (S.-1, Ch.-5, V.-12) |
युक्तः कर्मफलं त्यक्त्वा शान्तिमाप्नोति नैष्ठिकीम् । अयुक्तः कामकारेण फले सक्तो निबध्यते ॥ ५-१२॥ |
yuktaḥ karmaphalaṃ tyaktvā śāntimāpnoti naiṣṭhikīm । ayuktaḥ kāmakāreṇa phale sakto nibadhyate ॥ 5-12॥ |
युक्तः = yuktah (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle *yuj), disciplined, steadfast, fixed in Yoga.; कर्मफलं = karmaphalam (n. acc. sg.), action fruit, fruit of action.; त्यक्त्वा = tyaktva (gerund *tyaj), abandoning, having abandoned.; शान्तिमा = śāntim (f. acc. sg.), peace, tranquility.; अप्नोति = apnoti (3rd sg. pro indic. act. *ap) , he at-tains, he obtains, he reaches.; नैष्ठिकीम् = naiṣṭhikīm (f. acc. sg.), final, complete, last, decided, highest, definitive, steady.; अयुक्तः = ayuktas (m. nom. sg.), undisciplined, un-fixed in Yoga, unsteadfast.; कामकारेण = kāmakāreṇa (m. inst. sg.), by desire-action, by action resulting from desire.; फले = phale (n. loco sg.), in fruit.; सक्तो = saktas (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle *sanj), attached, clinging.; निबध्यते = nibadhyate (3rd sg. pro indic. passive ni*bandh), he is bound, he is bound down, he is fettered. |
A performer of selfless action forsakes the results of his actions and thus attains the Supreme peace of the Lord. But, the attachments bind the person with desires who aspires for the results. ||5-12||
