Bhagavadgita,-अर्जुनविषादयोगः arjunaviṣādayogaḥ, (S.-1, Ch.-1, V.-22)

यावदेतान्निरिक्षेऽहं योद्‌धुकामानवस्थितान्। कैर्मया सह योद्धव्यमस्मिन्रणसमद्यमे॥१-२२॥

jāvadetānnirīkšeahaṁ jod‌dhukāmānavasthitān । kairmajā saha joddhavjamasminraṇasamudjame ॥1-22॥



यावद yavad, = as many, as much, until.; एेतान etan (m. acc. pl.), = these.; निरिक्षे nirikse (1st sg. mid. nir *aks), = I see, I behold.; ऽहं aham (nom. sg.), = I.; योद्‌धुकामान yoddhukaman (m. acc. pl.), = wishing to fight,anxious to fight, hungry for battle.; अवस्थितान् avasthitan (m. acc. pl.), = arrayed, arranged in battle formation.; कै kai (m. inst. pI. interrog.), = by whom? with whom?; मया maya (m. inst. sg.), = by me, with me.; सह saha, = together, along with.; योद्धव्यम yoddhavyam (n. nom. sg. gerundive .*yudh, used impersonally), to be fought.; अस्मिन् asmin (m. loco sg.), = in this. रण rana (m.), = battle, conflict; rafJa also means joy, pleasure, delight, and in its use here means battle as an object of delight. समुद्यमे samudyame (m. loco sg. derivative noun from sam ud .*yam), = in lifting, in raising, in set- ting about, in undertaking, in readiness for.(रणसमुद्यमे, m. loco pI. TP cpd., in readiness for battle.)



O Achyuta, please place my chariot between the two armies and station it there until I have carefully observed them (the side of Kauravas) who are desirous of fighting with whom (the side of Pandavas), I must fight this war. I desire to observe the well-wishers of evil-minded Duryodhana, who have come here and are now ready for this battle. ||1-20,21,22,23||
