| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-39) |
श्रद्धावाँल्लभते ज्ञानं तत्परः संयतेन्द्रियः । ज्ञानं लब्ध्वा परां शान्तिमचिरेणाधिगच्छति ॥ ४-३९॥ |
śraddhāvām̐llabhate jñānaṃ tatparaḥ saṃyatendriyaḥ । jñānaṃ labdhvā parāṃ śāntimacireṇādhigacchati ॥ 4-39॥ |
श्रद्धावाँ = śraddhāvām̐ (m. nom. sg.), full of faith, pos-sessing faith.; लाभते = labhate (3rd sg. pr. indic. mid . *labh), he attains, he obtains, he meets with.; ज्ञानं = jñānaṃ (n. acc. sg.), knowledge, wisdom.; तद = tad (m. acc. sg.), that.; परः = paras (m. nom. sg.), devoted to, holding as highest object.; संयत = samyata (p. pass. participle sam *yam), re-straining, controlling, subduing.; इन्द्रियः = endriyaḥ (m. nom. sg.), sense, power. (संयतेन्द्रियः saṃyatendriyaḥ, m. nom. sg., BY cpd., one with restrained senses.); ज्ञानं = jñānaṃ (n. nom. acc. sg.), knowledge, wis-dom.; लब्ध्वा = labdhvā (gerund *abh), attaining, obtaining, having attained.; परां = parāṃ (f. acc. sg.), supreme, highest.; शान्तिम = śāntim (f. acc. sg.), peace, tranquility.; अचिरेणा = acireṇa (adv.), by not slowly, by not for long, speedily, soon.; अधिगच्छति = adhigacchati (3rd sg. pr. indic. act. adhi. *gam), he attains, he goes, he meets with. |
An interested person always engaged, and who has won over the senses
gains knowledge. Having gained such knowledge, he at once attains the
supreme peace. ||4-39||
