Bhagavadgita,-अर्जुनविषादयोगः arjunaviṣādayogaḥ, (S.-1, Ch.-1, V.-20) |
अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान् कपिध्वजः। प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसंपाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डवः॥१-२०॥ |
atha vjavasthitāndṛṣṭvā dhārtarāṣṭrān kapidhvadžaḣ । pravṛtte śastrasaṁpāte dhanurudjamja pāṇḍavaḣ ॥1-20॥ |
अथ atha, = then. व्यवस्थितान् vyavasthitan (m. acc. pI. p. pass. participle viava .*sthii), drawn up in battle array, arrayed. दृष्ट्वा dṛṣṭvā (gerund .*drs), = seeing, having seen.(m. acc. pl.), the sons of Dhrtarastra. कपि kapi (~.), = ape, monkey. ध्वजः dhvajas (m. nom. sg.), = banner, flag, standard. (kapi-dhvajas, m. nom. sg. BV cpd., banner of the monkey.) प्रवृत्ते pravṛtte (m. loco sg.), = in the coming forth, in the resulting, in the occurring. शस्त्र sastra (m.), = weapon . संपाते saṃpāte (m. loco sg.), = in the coming to-gether, collision, encounter, confluence (sam .*pat).; (śastrasaṃpāte, m. loco sg. TP cpd., = clash of the weapons.) (प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसंपाते pravṛtte śastrasaṃpāte, m. loco absol., = when the clash of weapons began.) धनु dhanus (m. acc. sg.), = bow. उद्यम्य udyamya (gerund ud *yam), = raising up, flourishing, brandishing. पाण्डवः pāṇḍavaḥ (m. nom. sg.), = Son of Pandu (Arjuna). |
O Achyuta, please place my chariot between the two armies and station it there until I have carefully observed them (the side of the Kauravas) who are desirous of fighting with whom (the side of Pandavas). I must fight this war. I desire to observe the well-wishers of evil-minded Duryodhana, who have come here and are now ready for this battle. ||1-20,21,22,23||
