Bhagavadgita,-अर्जुनविषादयोगः arjunaviṣādayogaḥ, (S.-1, Ch.-1, V.-19) |
स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत् । नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलो व्यनुनादयन् ॥१-१९॥ |
sa ghoṣo dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṁ hṛdajāni vjadārajat । nabhaśča pṛthivīṁ čaiva tumulo vjanunādajan ॥1-19॥ |
स sa (m. nom. sg ), = the, this.; घोष ghoṣo (m. nom. sg. from .*ghus), = noise, cry,tumult, sound.; धार्तराष्ट्राणां dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ (m. gen. pl.), = of the sons of Dhrtarastra.; हृदयानि hṛdayāni (n. acc. pl.), = hearts.; व्यदारयत् vyadārayat (3rd sg. causative imperf. act. vi.*dr:), it burst, it tore, it rent, it lacerated, it caused to burst.; नभ nabha (n. acc. sg.), = sky, finnament.; च ca, = and.; पृथिवीं ptthivim (f. acc. sg.), = earth.; च ca, = and.; एैव eva, = indeed (used as a rhythmic filler).; तुमुलो tumulas (m. nom. sg.), = tumultuous, tumult.; व्यनुनादयन् vyanunadayan (m. nom. sg. pr. causative act.participle vi anu .*nad), = causing to make resonant, causing to thunder, causing to howl. |
The sound of these conch shells was terrifying. It echoed through the earth and the sky, smashing the hearts of Dhritarashtra's sons (Kauravas). ||1-19||
