| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-20) |
त्यक्त्वा कर्मफलासङ्गं नित्यतृप्तो निराश्रयः । कर्मण्यभिप्रवृत्तोऽपि नैव किञ्चित्करोति सः ॥ ४-२०॥ |
tyaktvā karmaphalāsaṅgaṃ nityatṛpto nirāśrayaḥ । karmaṇyabhipravṛtto'pi naiva kiñcitkaroti saḥ ॥ 4-20॥ |
त्यक्त्वा = tyaktvā (gerund *tyaj), abandoning, having abandoned.; कर्म = karma (n.), action.; फल = phala (n.), fruit, result.; सङ्गं = saṅgaṃ (m. acc. sg.), attachment, clinging. (कर्मफलासङ्गं karmaphaliisafigam, m. acc. sg. TP cpd., attachment to the fruit of action.); नित्य = nitya, always, eternally.; तृप्तो = tṛpto (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle *tṛp), satisfied, content.; निराश्रयः = nirāśrayaḥ (m. nom. sg. nis ii *sri), not de-pendent, not resorting to, whose depen-dence is lacking.; कर्मण्य = karmaṇya (n. loco sg.), in action.; अभिप्रवृत्तो = abhipravṛtto (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle abhipravṛtto), turning ahead, proceeding, engaging.; अपि = api, even, also.; न = na, not.; एव = eva, indeed (used as a rhythmic filler).; किञ्चिद = kiñcid, anything whatever.; करोति = karoti (3rd sg. pro indic. act. *kr), he does, he performs, he makes.; सः = sa (m. nom. sg.), he, this one.; |
One, who is unattached and ever content, abandons attachment to actions
and fruits of such actions. Such a person, though fully engaged in action
does nothing in reality. ||4-20||
