Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-21)

निराशीर्यतचित्तात्मा त्यक्तसर्वपरिग्रहः । शारीरं केवलं कर्म कुर्वन्नाप्नोति किल्बिषम् ॥ ४-२१॥

nirāśīryatacittātmā tyaktasarvaparigrahaḥ । śārīraṃ kevalaṃ karma kurvannāpnoti kilbiṣam ॥ 4-21॥



निराशी = nirāśī (m. nom. sg.), hopeless, free from desires, indifferent, without wishes.; 

यत = yata (m. p. pass. participle .Jyam), restrained, controlled.; 

चित्त = citta (n.), thought, mind.; 

आत्मा = atma (m. nom. sg.), self. (yatacittātmā m. nom. sg. BY cpd., hav-ing a self with a controlled mind.); 

त्यक्त = tyakta (p. pass. participle *tyaj), abandoned, left, renounced.; 

सर्व = sarva, all.; 

परिग्रहः = parigrahas (m. nom. sg. from pari *grah), getting, attaining, grasping, acquisition, possessions, property.; 

शारीरं = śārīraṃ (n. acc. sg.), bodily, with the body.; 

केवलं = kevalam (n. acc. sg.), alone, exclusively, only, merely.; 

कर्म = karma (n. acc. sg.), action.; 

कुर्वन् = kurvan (m. nom. sg. pr. act. participle *kr), performing, doing, making.; 

 = na, not.; 

अप्नोति = apnoti (3rd sg. pr. indic. act. *ap), he at-tains, he obtains, he reaches, he incurs.; 

किल्बिषम् = kilbiṣam (n. acc. sg.), guilt, fault, evil.



Having the mind and body under control and giving up all material

possessions of enjoyment, such a person having no desires performs action

only for the maintenance of the body and thus never attains sin. ||4-21||
