| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-19) |
यस्य सर्वे समारम्भाः कामसङ्कल्पवर्जिताः । ज्ञानाग्निदग्धकर्माणं तमाहुः पण्डितं बुधाः ॥ ४-१९॥ |
yasya sarve samārambhāḥ kāmasaṅkalpavarjitāḥ । jñānāgnidagdhakarmāṇaṃ tamāhuḥ paṇḍitaṃ budhāḥ ॥ 4-19॥ |
यस्य = yasya (m. gen. sg.), of whom.; सर्वे = sarve (m. nom. pl.), all.; समारम्भाः = samiirambhiis (m. nom. pI. from *sam *rabh. *rambh), enterprises, undertakings.; काम = kama (m.), desire, love.; सङ्कल्प = samkalpa (m.), purpose, aim.; वर्जिताः = varjitāḥ (m. nom. pI. p. pass. participle *vrj), twisted off, withheld, excluded. (कामसङ्कल्पवर्जिताः kāmasaṅkalpavarjitāḥ, m. nom. pI. BY cpd., ones who have excluded desirous in-tentions.); ज्ञाना = jñānā (n.), knowledge, wisdom.; अग्नि = agni (m.), fire, the god of fire.; दग्ध = dagdha (p. pass. participle *dah), burned, consumed.; कर्माणं = karmāṇaṃ (m. ace. sg.), action, deeds, karma. (ज्ञानाग्निदग्धकर्माणं jñānāgnidagdhakarmāṇaṃ, m. acc. sg. BY cpd., he who has consumed his karma in the fire of knowledge.); तम = tam (m. acc. sg.), him, this.; हुः = āhuḥ (3rd pI. perfect acc . .J ah, used in pres-ent sense), they call, they designate, they say.; पण्डितं = paṇḍitaṃ (m. acc. sg.), pal). Qit, pundit, wise man.; बुधाः = budhāḥ (m. nom. pl.), the intelligent, the wise ones. |
One whose actions are all away from will and desire, such actions are burnt
in the fire of wisdom and such a person is called as a ‘pundit’ (sage) by the
wise men. ||4-19||
