आपूर्यमाणमचलप्रतिष्ठं समुद्रमापः प्रविशन्ति यद्वत् ।तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी ॥२- ७०॥ |
āpūryamāṇamacalapratiṣṭhaṃ samudramāpaḥ praviśanti yadvat ।tadvatkāmā yaṃ praviśanti sarve sa śāntimāpnoti na kāmakāmī ॥2- 70॥ |
आपूर्यमाणम apuryamanam (m. acc. sg. pr. mid. participle from a *pr) becoming filled, becoming full.; चल acala (m.), = unmoved, unmoving.; प्रतिष्ठं pratistham (n. acc. sg. from prati *stha), = standing still, stable.; (acalapratiṣṭhaṃ, n. acc. sg. BY epd., = which is unmoved and standing still.); समुद्रमापः samudram (n. acc. sg.), = ocean, sea.; पः apa (f. nom. pl.), = water, the waters.; प्रविशन्ति pravisanti (3rd pI. pro indie. act. pra *vis), = they enter, they sit upon, they dissolve in.; यद्वत् yadvat, = in which way, as.; तद्वत् tadvat, = in this way, so.; कामा kama (m. nom. pl.), = desires, appetites.; यं yam (m. acc. sg.), = whom.; प्रविशन्ति pravisanti (3rd pI. act. pr. indic. pra *vis), = they enter, they encounter, they dissolve in.; सर्वे sarve (m. nom. pl.), = all.; स sa (m. nom. sg.), = he.; शान्तिमा santim (f. aec. sg.), = peace, tranquility.; प्नोति apnoti (3rd sg. act. *ap) , = he attains, he obtains, he reaches.; कामकामीन na, = not.; कामकामी kamakami (m. nom. sg.), = desirer of desires, desirer of the objects of desire. As water from different rivers enter the ocean, which remain undisturbed
though completely filled. In the same way, though all material enjoyments
enter into a self-realized person he attains peace and never desires to fulfill
his senses by enjoying them. But the person who falls for the desires does
not attain peace. ||2-70||
