योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनंजय ।सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योः समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते ॥२- ४८॥ |
yogasthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṃ tyaktvā dhanaṃjaya ।siddhyasiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṃ yoga ucyate ॥2- 48॥ |
योग yoga (m.), = Yoga, discipline, steadfastness.; अस्थः asthas (m. nom. sg. suffix), = fixed, abiding in.; कुरु kuru (2nd sg. imperative act. *kr:), = do! make! perform!; कर्माणि karmani (n. acc. pl.), = actions, deeds.; सङ्गं sangam (m. acc. sg.), = attachment, adherence, clinging.; त्यक्त्वा tyaktva (gerund *tyaj) , = abandoning, having abandoned.; धनंजय dhanamjaya (m. voc. sg.), = Conqueror of Wealth, frequent epithet of Arjuna.; सिद्ध्य siddhi (f.), = success, attainment, fulfillment.; असिद्ध्योः asiddhi (f.), = non-success, failure. (siddhyasiddhyoh, f. loco dual, = in success and failure, in success or failure.); समो samas (m. nom. sg.), = the same, equal, indifferent (as between two alternatives).;भूत्वा bhutva (gerund *bhu) , = being, becoming, having become.; समत्वं samatvam (n. nom. sg.), = equanimity, indifference, equableness.; योग yogas (m. nom. sg.), = Yoga.; उच्यते ucyate (3rd sg. pr. indic. passive *vac), = it is said, it is declared. |
O Dhananjaya! Abandon all desires, keep an even mind in success and
failure and do your duty that is prescribed to you. This steadiness of mind is
called Yoga. ||2-48||
