अन्तवन्त इमे देहा नित्यस्योक्ताः शरीरिणः ।अनाशिनोऽप्रमेयस्य तस्माद्युध्यस्व भारत ॥२- १८॥ |
antavanta ime dehā nityasyoktāḥ śarīriṇaḥ ।anāśino'prameyasya tasmādyudhyasva bhārata ॥2- 18॥ |
अन्तवन्त antavantas (m. nom. pl.), = having an end, impermanent.; इमे ime (m. nom. pl.), = these.; देहा deha (m. nom. pl.), = bodies.; नित्यस्य nityasya (m. gen. sg.), = of the eternal, of the undying.; उक्ताः uktah (m. nom. pI. p. pass. participle .*vac), = said, declared.; शरीरिणः saririna (m. gen. sg.), = of the embodied, of the soul, of the iitman.; अनाशिनो anāśino (m. gen. sg. derivative noun a *nas), of the indestructible, of the not lost.; ऽप्रमेयस्य aprameyasya (m. gen. sg. derivative noun from a pra .*ma), = of the not to be measured, of the immeasurable.; तस्माद् tasmat (m. abl. sg.), = from that, therefore.; युद्ध्यस्व yudhyasva (2nd sg. imperative mid . .*yudh), = fight! join in battle!; भारत bharata (m. voc. sg.), = Descendant of Bharata, epithet of Arjuna. |
O descendent of Bharata! These bodies of the indestructible, indefinable,
and all pervading soul are all described as perishable. Therefore you must
fight. ||2-18||
