| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-33) |
अर्जुन उवाच ।योऽयं योगस्त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन मधुसूदन ।एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात्स्थितिं स्थिराम् ॥ ६-३३॥ |
arjuna uvāca । yo'yaṃ yogastvayā proktaḥ sāmyena madhusūdana । etasyāhaṃ na paśyāmi cañcalatvātsthitiṃ sthirām ॥ 6-33॥ |
अर्जुन = arjunas (m. nom. sg.), AIjuna.; उवाच = uvaca (3rd sg. perfect act. -!vac), he said, he spoke.; यो = ya (m. nom. sg.), which, who.; ऽयं = ayaṃ (m. nom. sg.), this.; योग = yogas (m. nom. sg.), Yoga.; तवया = tvaya (inst. sg.), by thee.; प्रोक्तः = proktaḥ (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle pra *vac), declared, propounded, explained.; साम्येन = samyena (n. inst. sg.), with eveness of mind, with eqUilibrium, with impartiality.; मधुसूदन = madhusūdana, (m. voc. sg.), Slayer of Madhu, epithet of Krishna, referring to an asura, or demon, killed by Vishnu (Krishna), not to be confused with Madhu, the Yadava, who was Krishna's ancestor.; एतस्य = etasya (m. gen. sg.), of this.; अहम = aham (nom. sg.), I.; न = na, not.; पश्यामि = paśyāmi (rst sg. pr. indic. act. *pas), I see, I perceive.; चञ्चलत्वा = cañcalatvā (m. abl. sg.), from instability, from unsteadiness, from capriciousness, because of instability.; त्स्थितिं = sthitiṃ (f. acc. sg.), foundation, standing, maintenance, permanence, continued exis-tence.; स्थिराम् = sthiram (f. acc. sg.), permanent, immovable, fixed, steady, changeless. |
Arjuna said: O Madhusudana! This yoga of equanimity taught by You seems impossible to be perceived by me because the mind being restless and unsteady cannot remain constant for a longer period of time. O Krishna! The mind is restless, unsteady, turbulent, firm, and very strong. Therefore for me to control it, it seems as difficult as controlling the wind. ||6-33, 34||
