| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-22) |
यदृच्छालाभसन्तुष्टो द्वन्द्वातीतो विमत्सरः । समः सिद्धावसिद्धौ च कृत्वापि न निबध्यते ॥ ४-२२॥ |
yadṛcchālābhasantuṣṭo dvandvātīto vimatsaraḥ । samaḥ siddhāvasiddhau ca kṛtvāpi na nibadhyate ॥ 4-22॥ |
यदृच्छा = yadṛccha (f. nom. sg.), chance, accidental, spontaneous.; लाभ = lābha (m.), obtaining, gain.; सन्तुष्टो = santuṣṭo (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle sam *tuṣ), content, satisfied. (लाभसन्तुष्टो, m. nom. sg. BY cpd., one who has contentment.); द्वन्द्वा = dvandva (n.), pairs, dualities, polarity of op-posites.; अतीतो = ātīto (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle ati *i), going beyond, transcending. (द्वन्द्वातीतो dvandva-atftas, m. nom. sg. BY cpd., gone beyond opposites.); विमत्सरः = vimatsaras (m. nom. sg.), whose envy is gone, free from envy, free from greed, free from malice.; समः = samaḥ (m. nom. sg.), constant, the same, in-different.; सिद्धा = siddhā (f. loco sg.), in success, in accom-plishment.; असिद्धौ = asiddhiiu (f. loco sg.), in failure, in nonsuc-cess.; च = ca, and.; कृत्वा = kṛtvā (gerund *kṛ), making, having made, having done, having acted.; अपि = api, even, also.; न = na, not.; निबध्यते = nibadhyate (3rd sg. pr. indic. passive ni *badh), he is bound down, he is bound.; |
A person who is self-content with whatever is obtained without effort, risen
above the state of dualities, devoid of envy, even minded in success and
failure, such a person although performs action is not bound to them. ||4-22||
