कर्मेन्द्रियाणि संयम्य य आस्ते मनसा स्मरन् ।इन्द्रियार्थान्विमूढात्मा मिथ्याचारः स उच्यते ॥ ३-६॥

karmendriyāṇi saṃyamya ya āste manasā smaran ।indriyārthānvimūḍhātmā mithyācāraḥ sa ucyate ॥ 3-6॥

कर्मेन्द्रियाणि = karmendriyani (n. acc. pI. TP cpd. karma in-driyani), action-powers, powers of action.; 

संयम्य = samyamya (gerund sam *yam), restraining, subduing, controlling.; 

य = yas (m. nom. sg.), who, which.; 

आस्ते = aste (3rd sg. pro indic. mid. *as), he sits.; 

मनसा = manasa (n. inst. sg.), by the mind, with the mind.; 

स्मरन् = smaran (m. nom. sg. pr. participle *smr), remembering, thinking of.; 

इन्द्रियार्था = indriyarthan (indriya arthan, m. acc. pI. TP cpd.), sense-objects, objects of the senses, objects of the powers.; 

न्विमूढात = vimūḍhat (p. pass. participle vi *muh), de- luded, confused.; 

आत्मा = atma (m. nom. sg.), self.; 

मिथ्याचारः = mithyacaras (m. nom. sg.), of false behavior, hypocrisy, a hypocrite.; 

स = sas (m. nom. sg.), he, this.; 

उच्यते = ucyate (3rd sg. pr. indic. passive *vac), it is said, he is called, he is said to be.
