समवायिनः श्वैत्याच्छ्वैत्य बुद्धेश्च श्वेते बुद्विस्ते एते कार्यकारणभूते ॥ ८.१.९ ॥

samavāyinaḥ śvaityācchvaitya buddheśca śvete budviste ete kāryakāraṇabhūte || 8.1.9 ||

Combination as well as Attribute is a a use of Cognition

samavāyinaḥ—of that in which combination exists, the substratum; śvaityāt—from whiteness; śvaitya-buddheḥ—from cognition of whiteness; ca—and; śvete—in a white object; buddhiḥ—cognition; te—they; ete—those; kārya-kāraṇa-bhūte—related as effect and cause.

Verse: The cognition, (‘It is white’) in respect of a white object, (results) from whiteness of the substance in which combination of whiteness exists, and from the cognition of whiteness. These two, (cognition of white object, and cognition of whiteness), are related as effect and cause.
