कठोपनिषत्् (katha upanišad),-katha upanišad 1, (S.-4, Ch.-1, V.-26) |
श्वोभावा मर्त्यस्य यदन्तकैतत् सर्वेंद्रियाणां जरयंति तेजः । अपि सर्वं जीवितमल्पमेव तवैव वाहास्तव नृत्यगीते ॥ २६॥ |
śvobhāvā martyasya yadantakaitat sarveṃdriyāṇāṃ jarayaṃti tejaḥ । api sarvaṃ jīvitamalpameva tavaiva vāhāstava nṛtyagīte ॥ 26॥ |
antaka = O Death; [who ends all, the enjoyable things you offer me are]; śva-abhāvāḥ = ephemeral, transient [whose existence ,(bhāva) is subject to the doubt as to whether they will exist or not tomorrow (śvaḥ); jarayanti = waste away; tejaḥ = the vigour; yat = that [there is]; sarvendriyāṇāṁ = of all the senses; martyasya = of a human being; sarvaṁ api jīvitaṁ = all life [even, that of Brahmā is]; alpam eva = short indeed; vāhāḥ = the vehicles etc; [and also]; nṛtya-gīte = the dances and songs; tava eva = yours alone - let them remain yours. |
Nachiketa said: But, O Death, these endure only till tomorrow. Furthermore, they exhaust the vigour of all the sense organs. Even the longest life is short indeed. Keep your horses, dances and songs for yourself.
