हन्ता चेन्मन्यते हन्तुँ हतश्चेन्मन्यते हतम् । उभौ तौ न विजानीतो नायँ हन्ति न हन्यते ॥ १९॥ |
hantā cenmanyate hantu~ hataścenmanyate hatam । ubhau tau na vijānīto nāya~ hanti na hanyate ॥ 19॥ |
cet = if; manyate = one thinks: hantuṁ = for the sake of killing; hantā = that he slays; cet = and if; manyate = one thinks; hataḥ = it is killed; ubhau tau = both of them; na vijñānītaḥ = do not comprehend their own Self; ayaṁ = this one [Self] na hanti = does not kill; na hanyate = and is not killed. |
If the killer thinks he kills and if the killed man thinks he is killed, neither of these apprehends aright. The Self kills not, nor is It killed.
