प्राणं चेदिडया पिबेन्नियमितं भूयोऽन्यथा रेचयेत् पीत्वा पिङ्गलया समीरणं अथो बद्ध्वा त्यजेद्वामया ।
सूर्यचन्द्रमसोरनेन विधिनाभ्यासं सदा तन्वतां शुद्धा नाडिगणा भवन्ति यमिनां मासत्रयादूर्ध्वतः ॥ २.१० ॥ |
prāṇaṃ cediḍayā pibenniyamitaṃ bhūyo'nyathā recayet pītvā piṅgalayā samīraṇaṃ atho baddhvā tyajedvāmayā ।
sūryacandramasoranena vidhinābhyāsaṃ sadā tanvatāṃ śuddhā nāḍigaṇā bhavanti yamināṃ māsatrayādūrdhvataḥ ॥ 2.10 ॥

Prānaṁ - breath, life energy
Ced - when
Iḍayā - through Ida (the lunar channel, the left nostril)
Pibet - to breathe (to sucks)
Niyamitaṁ - regular
Bhūyas - again happening
Anyayā - by the other (another nasal hole)
Recayet - to exhale
Pītvā - after being inhaled (sucked)
Piṅgalayā - through Pingala (the right nasal hole)
Samīraṇam - air, breath, wind
Atha u - well, then
Baddhvā - after stopping (bandh)
Tyajet - to that
Vāmayā - through the left nostril
Sūrya - sun (through the right nostril)
Candramasoḥ - moon channel (Chandramas)
Anena - to this (idam)
Vidhinā - way (and way, vidhi)
Abhyāsaṁ - practice, exercise
Sadā - always
Tanvatāṁ - executing, spreading
Śuddhāḥ - pure
Nāḍi - the subtle energy channels
Gaḥāḥ - hosts
Bhavanti - to become, to happen
Yamināṁ - Yogis
Māsa - Month
Trayāt - three
Ūrdhvataḥ - to rise, to be || 10 ||

If the air was inhaled through the Ida (the left nostril), it should, after proper Kumbhaka, be released through the Pingala (right nostril), and then inhalation should happen through the Pingala (right nostril), Kumbhaka should be performed, and exhalation through the Ida (left nostril). By such practice (alternate breathing through Ida and Pingala) all of the yogi's nâdîs become clean (nadishodhana) within three months.
