येन त्यजेत्तेन पीत्वा धारयेदतिरोधतः ।
रेचयेच्च ततोऽन्येन शनैरेव न वेगतः ॥ २.९ ॥ |
yena tyajettena pītvā dhārayedatirodhataḥ ।
recayecca tato'nyena śanaireva na vegataḥ ॥ 2.9 ॥ |
Yena - (just) through which
Tyajet - exhaled
Tena - by the same,
Pītvā - to inhale
Dhārayet - to hold
Ati-rodhataḥ - as long as possible (to stop)
Recayet - to exhale
Ca - and
Tataḥ - after
Anyena - through the other
Śanais - slow, gradual
Eva - only, whole
Na - not
Vegataḥ - jerky, forcefully || 9 ||

After exhaling through one nostril, inhale through that same nostril and then hold the breath as long as possible. Exhale through the opposite nostril, non-violently and slowly.
