यमेष्विव मिताहारं अहिंसा नियमेष्विव ।
मुख्यं सर्वासनेष्वेकं सिद्धाः सिद्धासनं विदुः ॥ १.४० ॥ |
yameṣviva mitāhāraṃ ahiṃsā niyameṣviva ।
mukhyaṃ sarvāsaneṣvekaṃ siddhāḥ siddhāsanaṃ viduḥ ॥ 1.40 ॥ |
Yameṣu - among the Yama;
Iva - like;
Mita-āhāram - moderate (balanced) food;
Ahiṁsā - non-violence;
Niyameṣu - among the Niyama;
Iva - such a way;
Mukhyaṁ - most important;
Sarva - among all;
Āsaneṣu - asana;
Ekaṁ - only one;
Siddhāḥ - perfect master;
Siddhāsanaṁ - Siddhasana;
Viduḥ - is know.

Just as balanced food is the most important of the Yamas, and Ahimsâ is the most important of the Niyamas, so Siddhâsana is considered the most important ásana by the masters.
