धरां अवष्टभ्य करद्वयेन तत्कूर्परस्थापितनाभिपार्श्वः ।
उच्चासनो दण्डवदुत्थितः खे मायूरं एतत्प्रवदन्ति पीठम् ॥ १.३२ ॥ |
dharāṃ avaṣṭabhya karadvayena tatkūrparasthāpitanābhipārśvaḥ ।
uccāsano daṇḍavadutthitaḥ khe māyūraṃ etatpravadanti pīṭham ॥ 1.32 ॥ |
Dharām - to the earth, put on the earth;
Avaṣṭabhya - supporting;
Kara - hands;
Dvayéna - with both;
Tad - that (both hands or arms);
Kūrpara - (with the) elbow;
Sthāpita - holding, stabilizing;
Nābhi - navel;
Pārśvaḥ - sides, flank;
Ucca - high, up;
Āsanó - body position;
Daṇḍa-vat - like a stick;
Utthitaḥ - raised;
Khé - into the air;
Māyūram - Peacock;
Etad - this, like this;
Pravadanti - is called;
Pīṭham - position, seat.

Place the palms of both hands on the ground, bend your arms rest your navel on the shelf made by your elbows and, balancing thus,extend your body backward and upward, straight as a stick. The body should appoear to float in the air. This is called Mayurásana (Peacock Pose).
