| पञ्चमोध्यायः,-Pranayama, (Ch.-5, V.-55) |
उत्तमा विंशतिर्मात्रा षोडशी मात्रा मध्यमा। अधमा द्वादशी मात्रा प्राणायामास्त्रिधा स्मृताः ॥५५॥ |
uttamā viṃśatirmātrā ṣoḍaśī mātrā madhyamā। adhamā dvādaśī mātrā prāṇāyāmāstridhā smṛtāḥ ॥55॥ |
The best is twenty Matras: i. e., Puraka 20 seconds, Kumbhaka 80, and Rechaka 40 seconds. The sixteen matras is middling, i.e., 16, 64 and 32. The twelve matras is the lowest, i.e., 12, 48, 24. Thus the Pranayama is of three sorts. |
