Commentary

Bharadvaja got the information from the god Indra and transmitted it to other wise men (monis and rishis), who gathered together at a favorable site in the Himalayas. Among them were Vasishtha, Atreya and other wise men. What was written down at that time as verses was a transcript of Atreya's storytelling. Originally Ayurveda was spread through songs, which are one way to connect with awareness. This is how Bharadvaja received the complete wisdom of Ayurveda from Indra during his meditation: He was the kind of person who was concerned about humanity. He did not need to disembowel human bodies to learn where the organs are, or how things function in the body, what all the processes are. He got to know this all during meditation. Then he opened his eyes, returned to his human form, and, using all of his senses, told others of everything he had gained. In this way he transmitted it to everyone, including Atreya. Consciousness is the energy through which human beings connect with the divine. The human being Bharadvaja connected with the god Indra through consciousness. People mostly perceive everything through their senses, but we are also capable of recognizing invisible energies like electromagnetism, ultraviolet light, infrared light, atomic energy - none of which are visible or accessible through any of our other senses. The one who created all these energies, who created the god Indra, is the one who is able to see, control and manage these energies. This is Brahma.
