Bhagavadgíta,-साङ्ख्ययोगः sámkhjajóga, (S.-1, Ch.-2, V.-20)

न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचिन्नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः ।अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे ॥२- २०॥

na jāyate mriyate vā kadācinnāyaṃ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ ।ajo nityaḥ śāśvato'yaṃ purāṇo na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre ॥2- 20॥



 na, = not.; जायते jayate (3rd sg. pr. pass . .*jan), = he is born.; म्रियते mriyate (3rd sg. pr. pass. -;.*mr), = he dies, he is dead.; वा va-va, = either-or.; कदाचिद kadacit, = at any time, at any time whatever.;  na, = not.; अयम ayam (m. nom. sg.), = this.; भूत्वा bhutva (gerund .Jbhil), = being, having been.; भविता bhavita (3rd sg. periphrastic fut . .*bhu), = he, it will be, he, it will become.;  na, = not.; भूयः bhuyah (m. nom. sg.), = again.; अज ajas (m. nom. sg. *jan), = unborn, birthless.; नित्यः nityas (m. nom. sg.), = eternal, indestructible.; शाश्वत sasvatas (m. nom. sg.), = perpetual, continuing.; ऽयं ayam (m. nom. sg.), = this.; पुराणो purana (m. nom. sg.), = primaeval, from former time, primordial.;  na, = not.; हन्यते hanyate (3rd sg. pro indic. pass . .*han), = it is slain, it is killed, he is slain.; हन्यमान hanyamane (m. loco sg. pr. mid. participle .*han), in being slain, in being killed.; शरीरे sarire (m. loco sg.), = in the body.



This soul does not take birth at any time nor does it die; nor does this soul
having been will cease to exist in the future. The soul is unborn, eternal,
everlasting, and primeval. Though the body is perished the soul never
perishes. ||2-20||
