मात्रास्पर्शास्तु कौन्तेय शीतोष्णसुखदुःखदाः ।आगमापायिनोऽनित्यास्तांस्तितिक्षस्व भारत ॥२- १४॥ |
mātrāsparśāstu kaunteya śītoṣṇasukhaduḥkhadāḥ ।āgamāpāyino'nityāstāṃstitikṣasva bhārata ॥2- 14॥ |
मात्र matra (f.), = material, measure, quantity.; स्पर्श sparsa (m. nom. pI. derivative noun from. *sprs), touchings, sensations. (mātrāsparśāstu, m. nom. pI. KD cpd., ma- terial sensations.); तु tu. = indeed, truly, but.; कौन्तेय kaunteya (voc.), = O Son of Kunt!, epithet of Arjuna, referring to his mother PI1ha or Kunt!.;शीत sita (n.), = cold.; उष्ण usna (n.), = heat.; सुख sukha (n.), = pleasure, happiness.; दुःख dukha (n.), = pain, misfortune.; दाः das (m. nom. pI. suffix), = causing, bringing about.; आगम agama (from a .*gam), = coming.; अपायिन apayinas (m. nom. pI. from apa .*i), = going.; ऽनित्य anitya (m. nom. sg.), = impermanent, transient, not eternal.; tan (m. acc. pl.), = them.; ततिक्षस्व titik~asva (2nd sg. imperative mid. desiderative .*tij), thou must endeavor to endure, do manage to endure!; भारत bharata (m. voc. sg.), = Descendant of Bharata, epithet of AIjuna. |
O son of Kunti! When the senses are in contact with the material nature,
there arise feelings of heat and cold, pleasure and pain, which are temporary.
Therefore O descendent of Bharata, accept them patiently and remain
unaffected by them. ||2-14||
