| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-24) |
सङ्कल्पप्रभवान्कामांस्त्यक्त्वा सर्वानशेषतः ।मनसैवेन्द्रियग्रामं विनियम्य समन्ततः ॥ ६-२४॥ |
saṅkalpaprabhavānkāmāṃstyaktvā sarvānaśeṣataḥ । manasaivendriyagrāmaṃ viniyamya samantataḥ ॥ 6-24॥ |
सङ्कल्प = saṅkalpa (m), purpose, aim, intention.; प्रभवान = prabhavān (m. acc. pl.), produced, born, come into being, origins. (samkalpaprabhavan. m. acc. pI. BY cpd., whose origins lie in one's intention.); कामां = kāmāṃ (m. acc. pl.), desires, cravings, lusts.; तयक्त्वा = tyaktvā (gerund *tyaj), abandoning, having abandoned, having forsaken, having re-nounced.; सर्वान = sarvāna (m. acc. pl.), all.; अशेषतः = aśeṣataḥ (adv.), without remainder, entirely, wholly.; मनस = manasa (n. inst. sg.), by mind, by thought.; एव = eva, indeed (used as a rhythmic filler).; इन्द्रियग्रामं = indriyagrāmaṃ acc. sg.), the multitude of senses, the aggregate of senses.; विनियम्य = viniyamya (gerund vi ni *yam), restraining, subduing, controlling.; समन्ततः = samantataḥ (adv.), wholly, completely. |
Completely giving up all desires arising from will and thoughts, and fully controlling the senses from all sides by the mind, and practicing gradually, one must attain the stage of trance. And by courage and firmness, the mind must be fixed on God with the help of intelligence and must not think of anything else. ||6-24,25||
