सञ्जय उवाच एवमुक्तो हृषीकेशो गुडाकेशेन भारत । सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये स्थापयित्वा रथोत्तमम् ॥१-२४॥

sañdžaja uvāča evamukto hṛṣīkeśo guḍākeśena bhārata । senajorubhajormadhje sthāpajitvā rathottamam ॥1-24॥

एवमु evam, = thus, in this manner.; उक्तो ukto (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle .*vac),= said, addressed, bespoken, हृषी hrsi = standing on end, erect, bristling.; केश kesa (m. nom. sg.), = hair, shock of hair. गुड guda (f.), = thick, a ball, molasses, thickened juice of the sugar cane. केश kesa (m.), = hair. (gudiikesena, m. inst. sg., by the Thick Haired One, by Arjuna.) भारत bharata (m. voc. sg.), Descendant of Bharata (here referring to Dhrtarastra whom Sanjya is addressing). सेनयो senayo (f. gen. dual), = of the two armies. उभय ubhayos (f. gen. dual), = of both. मध्ये madhye (n. loco sg.), = in the middle. स्थापयित्वा sthāpayitvā (causative gerund .*stha) , causing to stand, having caused to stand. रथोत्तमम् rathottamam (ratha uttamam, m. acc. sg.), = the chief chariot, the highest chariot.
