| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-16) |
किं कर्म किमकर्मेति कवयोऽप्यत्र मोहिताः । तत्ते कर्म प्रवक्ष्यामि यज्ज्ञात्वा मोक्ष्यसेऽशुभात् ॥ ४-१६॥ |
kiṃ karma kimakarmeti kavayo'pyatra mohitāḥ । tatte karma pravakṣyāmi yajjñātvā mokṣyase'śubhāt ॥ 4-16॥ |
किं = kim (interrog.), what? कर्म = karma (n. nom. sg.), action. किम = kim (interrog.), what?; अकर्म = akarmeti (n. nom. sg.), non-action, inaction.; इति = iti, thus (often used to close a quotation).; कवयो = kavayas (m. nom. pl.), poets, sages.; अपि = api, even, also.; अत्र = atra, in this matter, in this respect, here.; मोहिताः = mohitas (m. nom. pI. p. pass. participle *muh), confused, deluded.; तद = tad (n. acc. sg.), this, that.; ते = te (dat.), to thee.; कर्म = karma (n. acc. sg.), action.; प्रवक्ष्यामि = pravaksyami (1st sg. future act. pra *vac), I shall speak, I shall explain, I shall declare.; यद = yad (n. acc. sg.), which.; ज्ज्ञात्वा = jnatva (gerund Jjna), knowing, having known.; मोक्ष्य = moksyase (2nd sg. future passive *muc), thou shalt be released, thou shalt be liberated.; ऽशुभात् = asubhat (m. abl. sg.), from evil, from sin, from viciousness, from the disagreeable. |
Even the wise intellectuals are illusioned about the difference between -
What is action? and what is inaction? Therefore, I shall tell to you the truth
of action by knowing which you shall be liberated from all evils. ||4-16||
