| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-12) |
काङ्क्षन्तः कर्मणां सिद्धिं यजन्त इह देवताः ।क्षिप्रं हि मानुषे लोके सिद्धिर्भवति कर्मजा ॥ ४-१२॥ |
kāṅkṣantaḥ karmaṇāṃ siddhiṃ yajanta iha devatāḥ । kṣipraṃ hi mānuṣe loke siddhirbhavati karmajā ॥ 4-12॥ |
काङ्क्षन्तः = kāṅkṣantaḥ (m. nom. pI. pr. participle *kanksa), desiring, wishing for, hankering after. कर्मणां = karmanam (n. gen. pl.), of acts, of ritual acts. सिद्धिं = siddhim (f. acc. sg.), success, accomplish-ment, fulfillment. यजन्त = yajanta (samdhi for yajante, 3rd pI. pr. indic. mid . *yaj), they sacrifice, they worship. इह = iha, here, here in the world, here on earth. देवताः = devata (f. acc. pl.), to the godheads, to the Vedic godheads. क्षिप्रं = ksipram (adv.), quickly, instantly. हि = hi, indeed, truly. मानुषे = manuse (m. loco sg.), in human, belonging to mankind. लोके = loke (m. loco sg.), in the world. (मानुषे लोके mānuṣe loke, m. loco sg., in the world of men, in the human world.) सिद्धि = siddhis (f. nom. sg.), success, accomplish-ment, fulfillment. भवति = bhavati (3rd sg. pr. indic. act. *bhu), it is, it comes to be. कर्मजा = karmaja (f. nom. sg.), born of action, born of ritual acts. |
In this material world, people aspiring for the results of their actions,
worship the demigods. Because, success can be attained very quickly
through action. ||4-12||
