श्रीभगवानुवाच ।बहूनि मे व्यतीतानि जन्मानि तव चार्जुन । तान्यहं वेद सर्वाणि न त्वं वेत्थ परन्तप ॥ ४-५॥

bahūni me vyatītāni janmāni tava cārjuna । tānyahaṃ veda sarvāṇi na tvaṃ vettha parantapa ॥ 4-5॥

श्रीभगवान = sribhagawan (m. nom. sg.), the Blessed Lord, the Blessed One.; 

उवाच = uvaca (3rd sg. perf. act. *vac), he said, he spoke.

बहूनि = bahuni (n. nom. pl.), many.; 

मे = me (gen. sg.), of me, my.; 

व्यतीतानि = vyatitani (n. nom. pI. p. pass. participle vi ati *i), passed away, gone away, passings away.; 

जन्मानि = janmni (n. nom. pl.), births.; 

तव = tava (gen. sg.), of thee, thy.; 

च = ca, and.; 

अर्जुन = arjuna (m. voc. sg.), Arjuna.; 

तानि = tani (n. acc. pl.), them.; 

अहम = aham (nom. sg.), I.; 

वेद = veda (1st sg. perfect act. *vid, with present meaning), I know.; 

सर्वाणि = sarvani (n. acc. pl.), all.; 

न = na, not.; 

त्वं = tvam (nom. sg.), thou.; 

वेत्थ = vettha (2nd sg. perfect act. *vid, with present meaning), thou knowest.; 

परन्तप = paramtapa (m. voc. sg.), Scorcher of the Foe, epithet of Arjuna and other warriors.
