| Bhagavadgíta,-कर्मयोगःः karmayoga 3, (S.-1, Ch.-3, V.-25) |
सक्ताः कर्मण्यविद्वांसो यथा कुर्वन्ति भारत ।कुर्याद्विद्वांस्तथासक्तश्चिकीर्षुर्लोकसङ्ग्रहम् ॥ ३-२५॥ |
saktāḥ karmaṇyavidvāṃso yathā kurvanti bhārata ।kuryādvidvāṃstathāsaktaścikīrṣurlokasaṅgraham ॥ 3-25॥ |
सक्ताः = saktas (m. nom. pI. p. pass. participle *sanj), attached, clinging.; कर्माणि = karmani (n. loco pl.), in action, in deeds.; अविद्वां avidvamas (m. nom. pI. perf. act. particple a *vid), the unwise, the unwise ones.; यथा = yatha, in which way, as.; कुर्वन्ति = kurvanti (3rd pI. pr. indic. act. *kr), they act, they do.; भारत = bharata (m. voc. sg.), Descendant of Bha-rata, epithet of AIjuna, and others. Bharata was the patriarch of the dominant tribes about whom the Mahabharata was sung, and later written.; कुर्यात = kuryat (3rd sg. opt. act. *kr), he should act, he should perform, he should do.; विद्वान = vidvan (m. nom. sg. participle *vid), the wise, the wise one.; तथा = tatha, thus, in this way, so.; असक्त = asaktas (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle a *sanj), unattached, not clinging.; चिकीर्षु = ciklrsus (3rd sg. desiderative *kr), desiring to do, desiring to make, intending to do.; लोक = loka (m.), world.; सङ्ग्रहम् = samgraham (m. acc. sg.), holding together, maintenance. (loka-smngraham, m. acc. sg. TP cpd., maintenance of the world.) |
O Bharata! As the ignorant men interested in action perform their duties, so
should an unattached wise man perform action wishing for the world’s
welfare. ||3-25||
