| Bhagavadgíta,-साङ्ख्ययोगः sámkhjajóga, (S.-1, Ch.-2, V.-60) |
यततो ह्यपि कौन्तेय पुरुषस्य विपश्चितः ।इन्द्रियाणि प्रमाथीनि हरन्ति प्रसभं मनः ॥२- ६०॥ |
yatato hyapi kaunteya puruṣasya vipaścitaḥ ।indriyāṇi pramāthīni haranti prasabhaṃ manaḥ ॥2- 60॥ |
यततो yatato (m. gen. sg. pr. act. participle *yat), = of the striving, of the eager, of the one who strives.; ह्य hi, = indeed, truly.; अपि api, = even, also.; कौन्तेय kaunteya (m. voc. sg.), = Son of Kunti, frequent epithet of Arjuna.; पुरुषस्य purusasya (m. gen. sg.), = of the man.; विपश्चितः vipascitah (m. gen. sg. from *vip), = of wisdom, of learning.; इन्द्रियाणि indriyani (n. nom. pl.), = the senses, the powers.; प्रमाथीनि pramathini (n. nom. pl.), = tearing, rending, harassing, destroying, tormenting.; हरन्ति haranti (3rd pI. pro indie. act. *hr), they carry away, they seize, they take.; प्रसभं prasabham (adv.), = forcibly, violently.; मनः manas (n. acc. sg.), = mind, thoughts. |
O son of Kunti! Even the minds of such wise men practicing self-control are
forcibly carried away by the turbulent senses. ||2-60||
