| Bhagavadgíta,-साङ्ख्ययोगः sámkhjajóga, (S.-1, Ch.-2, V.-27) |
जातस्य हि ध्रुवो मृत्युर्ध्रुवं जन्म मृतस्य च ।तस्मादपरिहार्येऽर्थे न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि ॥२- २७॥ |
jātasya hi dhruvo mṛtyurdhruvaṃ janma mṛtasya ca ।tasmādaparihārye'rthe na tvaṃ śocitumarhasi ॥2- 27॥ |
जातस्य jatsaya (m. gen. sg.), = of the born.; हि hi, = indeed, truly.; ध्रुवो dhruvas (n. nom. sg.), = certain, safe, fixed.; मृत्यु mrtyus (m. nom. sg.), = death.; र्ध्रुवं dhruvam (n. nom. sg.), = certain, undoubted.; जन्म janma (n. nom. sg.), = birth.; मृतस्य mrtasya (m. gen. sg.), of the dead.; च ca, = and.; तस्माद tasmat (abJ. sg.), = from this, for this, therefore.; अपरिहार्ये apariharye (m. loc. sg. gerundive a pari.*hr), = in unavoidable, in inevitable.; ऽर्थे arthe (m. loc. sg.), = in purpose, in aim, in consequence.; न na, = not.; त्वं tvam (nom. sg.), = thou.; शोचितुम socitum (infinitive .*suc), to mourn, to lament.; अर्हसि arhasi (2nd sg. pr. indic. act . *arh), thou shouldst, thou art obliged, thou art able. |
Because, one who dies has to take birth and one who takes birth has to die.
Therefore you should not grieve over such unavoidable matters. ||2-27||
