तमुवाच हृषीकेशः प्रहसन्निव भारत ।सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये विषीदन्तमिदं वचः ॥२- १०॥

tamuvāca hṛṣīkeśaḥ prahasanniva bhārata ।senayorubhayormadhye viṣīdantamidaṃ vacaḥ ॥2- 10॥

तमु tam (m. acc. sg.), = him, to him.;
उवाच uvaca (3rd sg. perf. acc . .*vac), = he spoke, he said.; 
हृषीकेशः hṛṣīkeśaḥ (m. nom. sg.), = the Bristling Haired One, Krishna.; 
प्रहसन्न prahasanna (m. nom. sg. pr. participle pra. *has), = smiling, laughing, beginning to laugh. 
एैव iva, = like, so to speak.; 
भारत bharata (m. voc. sg.), = O Descendant of Bharata, epithet here of Dhrtarastra, the king to whom the scene is being described.; 
सेनयो senayos (f. gen. dual), = of the two armies.; 
उभयो ubhayos (f. gen. dual), = of both.; 
मर्ध्ये madhye (m. loco sg.), = in the middle.; 
विषीदन्तम viṣīdantam (m. acc. sg. pr. participle vi'. *sad), = dejected, despondent, sunk down.; idam (n. acc. sg.), = this.; 
वचः vacas (n. acc. sg.), = word, speech.
