एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन । अपि त्रैलोक्यराज्यस्य हेतोः किं नु महीकृते ॥१-३५॥

etānna hantumiččhāmi ghnato'pi madhusūdana । api trailokjarādžjasja hetoḣ kiṁ nu mahīkṛte ॥1-35॥

एतान्न etānna (m. acc. pl.), = them, these.; na, = not.; हन्तु hantum (infinitive -*han), = to kill, to slay.; इच्छा icchami (rst sg. pr. indic. act. *is), = I desire, I wish.;  घ्नतो ghnato (m. acc. pI. pr. participle -*han), = those who are killing, those who are about to kill.; ऽपि api, = even, also.; मधुसूदन madhusudana (m. voc. sg.), = Slayer of the Demon Madhu, epithet of Vishnu-Krishna. This Madhu is not to be confused with the Yadava patriarch who was Krishna's ancestor.; अपि api, = even, also.;  त्रैलोक् trailokya (n.), = the three worlds, viz., = the paradise of the gods, the realm of atmospheric beings and the earth.  राज्य rajyasya (n. gen. sg.), of the sovereignty, for the sovereignty. (त्रैलोक्यराज्यस्य trailokyarajyasya, n. gen. sg. TP cpd, for the sovereignty of the three worlds.); हेतोः hetos (m. abl. sg.), = because, on account of, cause.; किं kim (interrog.), = what? how?; नु nu, = now, then, indeed.; महीकृते mahīkṛte (m. loco sg.),= for the sake of the created world, for the earth.
