| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-40) |
श्रीभगवानुवाच ।पार्थ नैवेह नामुत्र विनाशस्तस्य विद्यते ।न हि कल्याणकृत्कश्चिद् दुर्गतिं तात गच्छति ॥ ६-४०॥ |
śrībhagavānuvāca । pārtha naiveha nāmutra vināśastasya vidyate । na hi kalyāṇakṛtkaścid durgatiṃ tāta gacchati ॥ 6-40॥ |
श्रीभगवान = śrībhagavān (m. nom. sg.), the Blessed Lord, the Blessed One.; उवाच = uvāca (3rd sg. perfect act. .Jvac), he said, he spoke.; पार्थ = partha (m. voc. sg.), Son of Prthii, epithet of Arjuna.; न = na, not, neither.; एव = eva, indeed (used as a rhythmic filler).; इह = iha, here, here on earth.; न = na, not, nor.; अमुत्र = amutra (adv.), there above, there in heaven.; विनाश = vinasas (m. nom. sg. verbal noun from vi *nas), destruction, loss.; तस्य = tasya (m. gen. sg.), of him, of this.; विद्यते = vidyate (3rd sg. pr. indic. passive .*vid), it is found, it is to be found.; न = na, not.; हि = hi, indeed, truly.; कल्याणकृत = kalyāṇakṛt (m. nom. sg. from kalyalJa +*kṛt ), virtuous, doing good.; कश्चिद् = kascid anyone, anyone whatever.; दुर्गतिं = durgatiṃ (f. acc. sg.), misfortune, "hard road," to misfortune, to the unfortunate goal.; तात = tāta (m. voc. sg.), my son, father (term of affection between seniors and juniors).; गच्छति = gacchati (3rd sg. pr. indic. act. .*gam), he goes, he walks. |
The Supreme Lord Sri Krishna said: O Partha! Such a person does not meet with destruction neither in this world nor in the other worlds because anyone performing pious activities never meets with destruction. ||6-40||
