| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-36) |
असंयतात्मना योगो दुष्प्राप इति मे मतिः ।वश्यात्मना तु यतता शक्योऽवाप्तुमुपायतः ॥ ६-३६॥ |
asaṃyatātmanā yogo duṣprāpa iti me matiḥ । vaśyātmanā tu yatatā śakyo'vāptumupāyataḥ ॥ 6-36॥ |
असंयत = asamyata (p. pass. participle a sam *yam) , uncontrolled, unsubdued.; आत्मना = ātmanā (m. inst. sg.), by the self. (asamyatatmanii, m. inst. sg. BY cpd., by him whose self is uncontrolled.); योगो = yogas (m. nom. sg.), Yoga.; दुष्प्राप = duṣprāpa (m. nom. sg. from du~ pra *lap), difficult to attain, hard to reach.; इति = iti, thus.; मे = me (gen. sg.), of me, my.; मतिः = matiḥ (f. nom. sg.), thought, opinion.; वश्या= vaśya (m.), controlled, subject to the will.; आत्मना = ātmanā (m. inst. sg.), by the self. (vaśyātmanā, m. inst. sg. BY cpd., by him whose self is controlled.); तु = tu, but, however.; यतता = yatatā (m. inst. sg. pro act. participle -*yat), by striving, with effort.; शक्य = śaky (m. nom. sg. gerund -*sak), possible, able.; ऽवाप्तुम = avāptum (infinitive ava *āp), to attain, to reach, to obtain.; उपाय = upāya (m.), means, course.; अतः = ataḥ (adverbial suffix), through, by. |
A person who cannot control his mind cannot attain yoga. And a person with controlled mind and who is always practicing can naturally attain yoga by such a practice. This is My own opinion. ||6-36||
