| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-4) |
यदा हि नेन्द्रियार्थेषु न कर्मस्वनुषज्जते ।सर्वसङ्कल्पसंन्यासी योगारूढस्तदोच्यते ॥ ६-४॥ |
yadā hi nendriyārtheṣu na karmasvanuṣajjate । sarvasaṅkalpasaṃnyāsī yogārūḍhastadocyate ॥ 6-4॥ |
यदा = yadā, when. ; हि = hi, indeed, truly.; न = na, not.; इन्द्रियार्थेषु = endriyārtheṣu (n. loco pl.), in the objects of the senses.; न = na, not, nor.; कर्मसु = karmasu (n. loco pl.), in actions, in deeds.; नुषज्जते = anusajjate (3rd sg. pr. indie. mid. anu *saj *sanj), he is attached, he clings, he hangs onto.; सर्वसङ्कल्प = sarvasaṅkalpa (m.), all purpose, all resolve, all determination.; संन्यासी = saṃnyāsī (m. nom. sg.), renouncing, throw-ing down, casting aside. (sarvasaṅkalpasaṃnyāsī, m. nom. sg. TP cpd., renouncing all purpose, renouncing all determination.); योगा = yoga (m.), Yoga.; अरूढस्त = arudhas (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle a *ruh), ascended, climbed. (yogārūḍha, m. nom. sg. TP cpd., as-cended to Yoga, mounted to Yoga.); तदा = tada, then.;
उच्यते = ucyate (3rd. sg. pr. indic. passive ,)vac), it is said, he is said to be. |
When a person forsakes the interests of the senses and also the attachment for actions, then such a person having renounced all material desires is said to have attained yoga. ||6-4||
