| Bhagavadgíta,-संन्यासयोगः saṃnyāsayogaḥ, (S.-1, Ch.-5, V.-1) |
अथ पञ्चमोऽध्यायः । संन्यासयोगः अर्जुन उवाच ।संन्यासं कर्मणां कृष्ण पुनर्योगं च शंससि । यच्छ्रेय एतयोरेकं तन्मे ब्रूहि सुनिश्चितम् ॥ ५-१॥ |
atha pañcamo'dhyāyaḥ । saṃnyāsayogaḥ arjuna uvāca । saṃnyāsaṃ karmaṇāṃ kṛṣṇa punaryogaṃ ca śaṃsasi ।yacchreya etayorekaṃ tanme brūhi suniścitam ॥ 5-1॥ |
अर्जुन = arjuna (m. nom. sg.), AIjuna.; उवाच = uvaca (3rd sg. perf. act. *vac), he said, he spoke.; संन्यासं = samnyasam (m. acc. sg. from sam ni *as), renunciation, throwing down, abandon-ment.; कर्मणां = karmaṇāṃ (n. gen. pl.), of actions, of deeds.; कृष्ण = kṛṣṇa (m. voc. sg.), Krishna.; पुऩ: = punah, again.; योगम = yogam (m. acc. sg.), Yoga.; च = ca, and.; शंससि = śaṃsasi (2nd sg. pr. indic. act. sams), thou praisest, thou recitest, thou approvest, thou declarest.; यद = yad (n. nom. sg.), which, what.; श्रेय = sreyas, better, preferable.; एतयो = etayo (m. gen. dual), of these two.; एकं = ekam (acc. sg.), one, the one.; तद = tad (n. acc. sg.), this, that.; मे = me (dat. sg.), to me.; ब्रूहि = bruhi (2nd sg. imperative act. *bru) , tell! say!; सुनिश्चितम् = suniscitam (adv. from p. pass. participle su nis *ci), definitely, firmly resolved, in a settled way. |
Arjuna said; O Krishna, you have praised the renunciation of actions and then (also praised) the selfless action. Therefore, please tell me which one of these is certainly better. ||5-1||
