| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-17) |
कर्मणो ह्यपि बोद्धव्यं बोद्धव्यं च विकर्मणः । अकर्मणश्च बोद्धव्यं गहना कर्मणो गतिः ॥ ४-१७॥ |
karmaṇo hyapi boddhavyaṃ boddhavyaṃ ca vikarmaṇaḥ । akarmaṇaśca boddhavyaṃ gahanā karmaṇo gatiḥ ॥ 4-17॥ |
कर्मणो = karmano (n. gen. sg.), of action.; हि = hi, indeed, truly.; अपि = api, even, also.; बोद्धव्यं = boddhavyam (n. nom. sg. gerundive *budh), to be known, to be enlightened, to be taught.; च = ca, and.; विकर्मणः = vikarma7J(ls (n. gen. sg.), of wrong action, of unsuitable action.; अकर्मणश्च = akarmaṇaśca (n. gen. sg.), of non-action, of inaction.; च = ca, and.; बोद्धव्यं = boddhavyam (n. nom. sg. gerundive *budh), to be known, to be enlightened, to be learned.; गहना = gahanā (f. nom. sg.), difficult to under-stand, hard to comprehend, deep, dense, thick, profound.; कर्मणो = karmaṇo (n. gen. sg.), of action.; गतिः = gati (f. nom. sg.), way, path, road, going. |
The truth of action must be known, the truth of inaction must be known, and
also the truth of forbidden action must be known, because the nature of
action is mysterious. ||4-17||
