| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-2) |
एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः । स कालेनेह महता योगो नष्टः परन्तप ॥ ४-२॥ |
evaṃ paramparāprāptamimaṃ rājarṣayo viduḥ । sa kāleneha mahatā yogo naṣṭaḥ parantapa ॥ 4-2॥ |
एवं = evam, thus, so.; परम्परा = parampara (f. nom. sg.), succession, one to another.; प्राप्त = praptam (acc. sg. p. pass. participle prayap), received, obtained, attained.; इमं = imam (m. acc. sg.), this.; राजर्षयो = rajarsayas (m. nom. pI. raja *sayas), royal J:sis, royal seers.; विदुः = vidus (3rd sg. perfect act. *vid), they knew.; स = sas (m. nom. sg.), it, this.; कालेनेह = kalena (m. inst. sg.), by time, in time, with time.; इह = iha, here, here on earth.; महता = mahata (m. inst. sg.), long, great, extended.; योगो = yogas (m. nom. sg.), Yoga.; नष्टः = nastas(m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle *nas), lost, destroyed.; परन्तप = paramtapa (m. voc. sg.), Scorcher of the Foe, epithet of Arjuna and other warriors. |
O slayer of enemies! In this way, the knowledge of Gita was known
traditionally by the Rajarshis (saintly kings) and has been obtained in
disciplinal succession, but this science of yoga had become so old that it
appeared to be lost in this world. ||4-2||
