| Bhagavadgíta,-साङ्ख्ययोगः sámkhjajóga, (S.-1, Ch.-2, V.-67) |
इन्द्रियाणां हि चरतां यन्मनोऽनु विधीयते ।तदस्य हरति प्रज्ञां वायुर्नावमिवाम्भसि ॥२- ६७॥ |
indriyāṇāṃ hi caratāṃ yanmano'nu vidhīyate ।tadasya harati prajñāṃ vāyurnāvamivāmbhasi ॥2- 67॥ |
इन्द्रियाणां indriyanam (n. gen. pl.), = of the senses, of the powers.; हि hi, = indeed, truly.; चरतां caratam (m. gen. pI. pr. participle .*car), = of wandering, of roving.; यद yad (n. nom. sg.), = which, what, when.; मनो mana (n. nom. sg.), = mind, thought.; ऽनुविधीयते anuvidhiyate (3rd sg. pr. passive anu vi..*dha), = it is guided, it is led, it is ordered, it is regulated.; तद tad (n. nom. sg.), = this, that, then.; स्य asya (gen. sg.), = of it, of him.; हरति harati (3rd sg. act. *hr), = it carries away, it steals.; प्रज्ञां prajnam (f. acc. sg.), wisdom, understanding, discrimination.; वायु vayu (m. nom. sg.), = wind.; नावम navam (f. acc. sg.), = ship, boat.; ईव iva, = like.ं; अम्भसि ambhasi (n. loco sg.), = on the water. |
Just as wind carries away the boat on the water (sea), the mind, which is
amidst any one of the wandering senses, robs away intellect of man. ||2-67||
