यदा संहरते चायं कूर्मोऽङ्गानीव सर्वशः ।इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेभ्यस्तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता ॥२- ५८॥ |
yadā saṃharate cāyaṃ kūrmo'ṅgānīva sarvaśaḥ ।indriyāṇīndriyārthebhyastasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā ॥2- 58॥ |
यदा yada, = when; संहरते samharate (3rd. sg. pr. indic. mid. sam *hr:), = he withdraws, he draws together.; च ca, = and.; अयम ayam (m. nom. sg.), = this, this one.; कूर्मो kurmas (m. nom. sg.), = tortoise, turtle.; ऽङ्गा angani (n. acc. pl.), = limbs, legs and arms.; एैव iva, = like, similarly.; सर्वशः sarvasas, = completely, = wholly, altogether.; इन्द्रियाणी indriyani (n. acc. pl.), = senses, powers.; इन्द्रियार्थेभ्य indriyarthebhyas (m. abl. pl.), = from the objects of sense, from the objects of the senses. TP cpd.; तस्य tasya (m. gen. sg.), = of this, of it, of him.; प्रज्ञा prajna (f. nom. sg.), = wisdom, understanding, judgement, discrimination.; प्रतिष्ठिता pratisthita (f. nom. sg. p. pass. participle prati *stha), = standing firm, established. |
Just as a tortoise draws in its limbs, similarly, such a person when withdraws
the senses from all sides and from sense objects, then the mind will become
fully stable. ||2-58||
