Atmabodha,-Towards REALISATION, (S.-1, Ch.-7, V.-45)

स्थाणौ पुरुषवद्भ्रान्त्या कृता ब्रह्मणि जीवता । जीवस्य तात्त्विके रूपे तस्मिन्दृष्टे निवर्तते ॥ ४५॥

sthāṇau puruṣavadbhrāntyā kṛtā brahmaṇi jīvatā । jīvasya tāttvike rūpe tasmindṛṣṭe nivartate ॥ 45॥

1 Sthaanau purusha-vat bhraantyaa Due to delusion, a ghost is seen instead of post; 2 kritaa brahmani jeevataa; so also, in Brahman is seen the individual Jiva; 3 jeevasya taattvike roope the real nature of the Jiva – 4 tasmin drishte nivartate. when it is seen as the Self, (then the Jiva) is destroyed.

Due to delusion, a tree appears to be a man. Similarly Brahman who is Paramatma appears to be Jivatma because of delusion. When such delusion is destroyed, the real nature of Jiva is realised as the Atma.
