Commentary

Kapha means the qualities that are the foundation of matter, i.e. greasiness, cold, heaviness, slowness, smoothness, sliminess and stability. Kapha is a force involving such qualities. However, this does not mean that Kapha is itself just matter in a gross, physical form. Rather, it should be understood as the force that makes things materialize. In the extreme case, this means that if the force of Kapha decreases in matter, the matter loses those qualities and form and disintegrates. For example, the human body: when Kapha is present, the integrity of the body is preserved, the muscles are the muscles, the fat remains the fat, the bones are the bones. As soon as Kapha disappears, the body disintegrates and loses its form as a body per se. Another example is that of a material found in the blood vessels - vascular liquid. When the vascular liquid has the Kapha qualities, then its appearance and its functioning are correct, but when Kapha is not there, the liquid dries out, or diminishes in volume, or coagulates, or thickens, or becomes rough, or changes color. Kapha is the force that provides matter with the qualities (guny) mentioned above.

What is left behind in Kapha form is a proportional reflection of the desire and plan that created the form. All forms that exist are already proportional to their causes, so there is already equilibrium established everywhere.

The doshas are the forces of deflection/fluctuation, transformation and stabilization, and their dosage is determined by intention/desire, not by anything else. The dosage is not inhrerent to the dosha.

The Kapha form is what our senses perceive and our buddhi then infers what caused the materialization.
