Freedom is not by seeing
|
na = not;
dṛṣṭāt = that which is seen, from visible objects, known;
tat-siddhiḥ = that – accomplishing, that achievement;
nivṛtte = on getting rid of pain (or attachment), after freedom from pain;
api = even;
anuvṛtti = to regain ( the pain);
darśanāt = by observing, seeing.
|
Mere seeing [of matter in the world] does not end these three sufferings.
____James R. Ballantyne, London 1885_____
The effectuation of this (complete cessation of pain) is not (to be expected) by means of the visible [such as wealth, etc.]; for we see [on the loss of wealth, etc.] the restoration [of the misery and evil,] after [its temporary] cessation.
Komentář: By seeing visible matter or by using visual means one cannot get rid of disease/suffering. Alleviating symptoms is not the same thing as getting rid of the cause of a disease. The time scale here is the scale of an entire life - all of the past, present and future of a life.
Drstat means by observing or seeing something that actually physically exists.
