Commentary

The wise men were interested in finding a way to understand human beings and their behavior. They choose Bharadvaja, because he was the strongest, to receive Indra's wisdom and hand it over to the others. Atreya then spread this wisdom throughout his collective through song. Today’s Ayurveda is the written version of the verses that Atreya recited. Bharadvaja, who was a great ascetic, went to the god Indra, the redeemer, to find out about longevity. Now, Indra is not a person, but an energy that includes the entire space of Brahma, the endless area to which all the galaxies belong. In all the universe there is nowhere that is not under the governance of Brahma's energy. It is written that Indra is the god of lightning and rain, and that is also true. People used to pray to Indra to change the weather and to rescue them during natural catastrophes, floods, storms and tsunamis. However, Indra governs much more than just the weather. Indra takes control of the rotation of every electron in the universe, the power of all the atoms and elements, as well as human physiology and anatomy, all kinds of energy. Bharadvaja thought about this power and was interested in what human beings are made of, what the human body is made of - what kind of energy, what kind of thoughts. He entered a state of deep meditation (samadhi) and connected with the god Indra until he knew everything about the human physique, its functionality, and the whole of human anatomy and physiology. He got to know it all during this meditation and connection with Indra.
