asati nāstīti ca prayogāt || 7.2.17 ||

asati—not existing; Na asti—(It) does not exist; iti—such; ca—and; prayogāt—because there is application.

Verse: (Word and Object are not in conjunction), also because in the case of a non-existent object there is such application (of word) as “(It) does not exist.”
