अथ शाम्भवी
अन्तर्लक्ष्यं बहिर्दृष्टिर्निमेषोन्मेषवर्जिता ।
एषा सा शाम्भवी मुद्रा वेदशास्त्रेषु गोपिता ॥ ४.३६ ॥ |
atha śāmbhavī
antarlakṣyaṃ bahirdṛṣṭirnimeṣonmeṣavarjitā ।
eṣā sā śāmbhavī mudrā vedaśāstreṣu gopitā ॥ 4.36 ॥ |
Atha: now (follows, Atha)
Śāmbhavī: Shambhavi (Mudra)
Antar: (is after) inside (addressed, antar)
Lakṃyaṃ *: (the concentration on the) meditation object ("target", Lakshya)
Bahis: (is after) outside (directed, Bahis)
Dḥiḥ: (the) view (Drishti)
Nimeṣa: Eyebrowth (Nimesha)
Unmeṣa: (and) eyebrow (Unmesha)
Varjitā: (and) free of (Varjita)
Eṣā sā: this (already mentioned, Etad Tad)
Śāmbhavī ** mudrā: Shambhavi Mudra "the seal of the wife Shambhus"
Veda: (in the) Vedas (Veda)
Śāstreṣu ***: (and) in the teaching texts (Shastra)
Gopitā: (she is) guarded, preserved ("secretly kept", Gopita) || 36 ||

Aiming at Brahman inwardly while keeping the gaze focused on external objects without blinking the eyes is called the Sâmbhavî Mudrâ. It is hidden in the Vedas and the Sâstras.
